"Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. The hands can't hit what the eyes can't see."
— Muhammad Ali
Float Like A Butterfly Sting Like
Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. The hands can't hit what the eyes can't see.
About this quote
Co-created by Muhammad Ali and his cornerman Drew "Bundini" Brown in the buildup to the February 25, 1964 world heavyweight title fight against Sonny Liston in Miami Beach. Ali was a 7-to-1 underdog; 43 of 46 ringside sportswriters predicted a Liston knockout. The phrase described Ali's unorthodox style — constant movement and elusive footwork paired with fast, punishing combinations — and became synonymous with his stunning upset victory, when Liston refused to answer the bell for the seventh round.
