In the third film, both Miyagi and Daniel are manipulated by the scheming Terry Silver and the vengeful John Kreese into situations that test whether they will act on emotion or hold to their values. Miyagi's line is a distillation of that test: passion in the moment can drive someone to win the immediate battle while corrupting the moral ground they stood on.
