"Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen."
— Winston Churchill
Courage Is What It Takes To
Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.
About this quote
This quote has no connection to Churchill. The Churchill Archive — containing around 800,000 original documents — holds no record of it, and it does not appear anywhere in his canon. Quote Investigator found the earliest match in a 1964 issue of Quote: The Weekly Digest, where it was credited to American motivational writer William Arthur Ward. Churchill's name was first attached to the saying only around 1976, more than a decade after his death in 1965, with no supporting evidence.
