Parks framed her civil rights activism not as audacity but as moral obligation: when one knows an action is right, fear is not a legitimate reason to refrain from it. She had internalised this conviction through her religious faith and her years of NAACP activism in Montgomery, Alabama, where she served as chapter secretary before her arrest in 1955.
