"The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing."
— Albert Einstein
The Important Thing Is Not To
The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing.
About this quote
These words appeared in the May 2, 1955 issue of LIFE magazine, in an article titled "Old Man's Advice to Youth: 'Never Lose a Holy Curiosity'" by journalist William Miller. Miller had brought his son to meet Einstein, and the boy expressed a kind of nihilism — no reason to strive for anything. Einstein's response became one of his most cited statements. Quote Investigator confirms the authenticity of this source, though the 2011 edition of Alice Calaprice's The Ultimate Quotable Einstein notes slight wording differences from the original magazine text.
