Lincoln never said this. The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library has confirmed the quote does not appear anywhere in the Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln. Quote Investigator traces the expression to computer scientist Dennis Gabor (1963) and management thinker Peter Drucker, with a popular version popularized by Alan Kay as "The best way to predict the future is to invent it." The Lincoln attribution appears to have originated around 2008 when a senior U.S. official incorrectly credited Lincoln with it in a public speech.
