About this quote
This definition of happiness as "a good flow of life" (euroia biou) is attributed to Zeno of Citium by Stobaeus (Eclogae II.77), drawing on Zeno's account of eudaimonia. The metaphor of "flow" suggests an activity that proceeds without obstruction, friction, or resistance — the Stoic ideal of a life in which reason governs impulse so smoothly that action becomes natural and effortless. The same image of psychological flow was developed by Epictetus and Marcus Aurelius, and has found a modern echo in Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's psychological concept of "flow states."
