Richard Feynman left these words on his blackboard at Caltech, where they were photographed on the day of his death on 15 February 1988. The companion line on the blackboard read: "Know how to solve every problem that has been solved." Together they encapsulate his conviction that real understanding requires the ability to reconstruct knowledge from first principles — not merely to recite it.
