"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."
— Martin Luther King Jr.
I Have A Dream That My
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
About this quote
Spoken on August 28, 1963, at the Lincoln Memorial before an audience of more than 250,000 people at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom — the largest gathering for civil rights the capital had ever seen. Martin Luther King Jr. was the final speaker; the famous "I have a dream" refrain was largely improvised after gospel singer Mahalia Jackson, seated behind him, called out "Tell 'em about the dream, Martin!" He received the Nobel Peace Prize two months later, in October 1964.
