"Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without."
— Gautama Buddha
Peace Comes From Within Do Not
Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.
About this quote
"Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without" is not found in the Pali Canon and is almost certainly not the Buddha's. Researchers at FakeBuddhaQuotes.com traced the expression through English Christian literature from 1812 onward — it evolved gradually before being attached to the Buddha's name. The closest canonical passage is in the Sutta Nipata (4.14): "Inward peace — a monk should not find peace in another," but the popular version is not a plausible translation of that or any other scriptural verse. The first known Buddhist attribution appears in a 1959 book of sayings attributed to the Buddha.
