"I have been interested in the subject of electricity for many years, and I am now convinced that the alternating-current system is the system of the future."
— George Westinghouse
I Have Been Interested In The
I have been interested in the subject of electricity for many years, and I am now convinced that the alternating-current system is the system of the future.
About this quote
This statement is attributed to George Westinghouse from around 1886, the period when he founded the Westinghouse Electric Company and began deploying alternating current systems commercially. Westinghouse had become convinced by the work of Nikola Tesla and European engineers — particularly the demonstrations of AC transformer systems in France and Germany — that AC was superior to Thomas Edison's direct current for long-distance power transmission. The Westinghouse-Tesla AC system won the decisive contract to power the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, effectively establishing AC as the industry standard.
