These are recorded as Faraday's last words, given in response to a question about what he imagined awaited him in the next world, as cited in Roy B. Zuck's The Speaker's QuoteBook (1997) and noted in Silvanus P. Thompson's Michael Faraday: His Life and Work (1898). Faraday was a devout member of the Sandemanian Church throughout his life and found no conflict between his Christian faith and his scientific work. Near the end of his life he wrote to a friend: "I am, I hope, very thankful that in the withdrawal of the powers and things of life, the good hope is left with me, which makes the contemplation of death a comfort — not a fear."
