These were the words Alexander Graham Bell spoke to his assistant Thomas Watson on March 10, 1876, in Boston — the first intelligible sentence transmitted by telephone. Bell had spilled battery acid on his clothing moments before and called out to Watson, who was in the next room. The exchange marked the successful demonstration of the acoustic telegraph Bell had patented three days earlier.
